HIFU vs Morpheus8: Which Skin Tightening Treatment Should You Choose?
If you have researched non-surgical skin tightening, you have met both of these names. HIFU and Morpheus8 are the two most requested lifting treatments at our Cardiff clinic, and the most common question is simply: which one? The answer comes down to depth, downtime, and what is actually causing your laxity.
How they work
HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) sends focused ultrasound energy to the SMAS layer — the same foundational layer a surgeon lifts during a facelift. It creates precise points of thermal contraction deep beneath the skin, triggering months of new collagen production and a genuine structural lift. Nothing touches the skin surface.
Morpheus8 works from the surface down. Fine needles deliver radiofrequency energy up to 4mm deep, remodelling the dermis and the fat layer beneath it. It tightens skin, refines texture, softens acne scarring and can subtly contour areas like the jawline and under-chin.
Which is right for you?
- Choose HIFU if: your main concern is sagging — jowls, a softening jawline, a heavy brow — and you want lift with zero downtime.
- Choose Morpheus8 if: laxity comes with texture problems — acne scars, enlarged pores, crepey skin — or you want contouring of the lower face and neck.
- Combine them if: you have both descent and surface damage. HIFU lifts the foundation; Morpheus8 resurfaces and tightens the canvas. We frequently sequence them eight to twelve weeks apart.
Downtime, sessions and cost
HIFU is typically a single 90-minute session with results building over three to six months, from £600 at The Enchara. Morpheus8 is usually a course of three sessions with two to three days of redness each time, from £700. Both are performed with full medical oversight; you can go deeper into the science in our HIFU facelift guide and RF microneedling guide.
Frequently asked questions
Which hurts more?
HIFU produces brief deep aching during pulses; Morpheus8 is performed under strong topical numbing. Most clients rate both as very manageable.
Which lasts longer?
HIFU results typically last 12 to 18 months. Morpheus8 collagen remodelling lasts a similar time, with annual maintenance recommended for both.
Am I too young or too old for these?
The ideal candidate has mild to moderate laxity. Severe laxity may respond better to surgical options, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case.
The right answer depends on your anatomy, not the brochure. Book a consultation in Cardiff and we will map your face, show you what is driving the laxity, and recommend only what will work.
